Where are you legal?

There is a legal drinking age in most of the countries. In the United States, it is 21, and everyone should know that. 21 is the oldest drinking age that any country can have. In fact, only three other countries besides the US have that high of a drinking age. Sri Lanka, Palau, and Pakistan are the only other places that have that high of a drinking age. In Pakistan though, you are not allowed to drink at all if you are Muslim.

Surprisingly, some places actually don't have a drinking age at all. Places like Albania, Jamaica, Morrocco, Swaziland, and Tonga. There are some countries that have a low drinking age of 16, like Fiji, Germany, Greece, Norway, Poland, and Portugal. 17 is a happy medium age, right? You would think that there would have more countries than just Cyprus that would legally allowed to drink, but actually, its the only one. Even though these countries have low drinking ages, do not get caught driving. The punishment for drinking and driving much worse in these countries.

“Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.”
-Ernest Hemingway

  2. i think if we're old enough to shoot a gun and go to war then the drinking age should be 18. on another point.. if i go to any one of those countries, i'm aloud to drink or how does that work?

  7. Love the quote. I didn't know that some countries didn't have drinking ages! It doesnt really make sense to me why they are all different. I think that they should all be the same.

  8. Do they not have a drinking age because they don't have a problem with alcohol there? I know in some of those countries with low drinking age it goes with the types of alcohol.

  9. All I have to say is that those teenagers are lucky. I don't get why our grandparents and great grandparents had to ruin the drinking age for us. It used to be 18 here right?

  10. I've heard that some of the countries that don't have a drinking age or else a low drinking age don't have as much problems with alcohol.

  11. i agree we need to focus less on drinking (which people are gonna go anyway) ad focus on punishing them for driving.

  12. the drinking age doesn't really matter to me. just saying. i mean it's not like i go out and get trashed... but no matter what the drinking is, kids are going to find a way to get alcohol.

  13. You know, back in biblical times you're considered an adult at the age of fourteen...why should we have to wait seven years to enjoy a brewski? 16 years old is old enough to get amancipated and support yourself but you can't drink a beer? are you not adult enough or it? 40% of alcohol in the midwest is consumed by minors anyway.

  16. Kids can find alcohol so easily the drinking age hardly even matters. As long as you don't get caught.

  17. What are some of the other countries' punishments for underage drinking or driving while drunk? What are some of the justifications for having a lower drinking age? Does it apply to all alcohol or does it depend on the alcohol content %?
